Anti-Aging Cream Adventures

May 15, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

Did you know that your skin ages in two different ways? In fact, it ages internally as well as externally. Internal skin aging occurs when collagen and elastin wear away over time, this is what causes the skin to sag and create wrinkles. External aging is environment related; things such as pollution and smoking can create wrinkles and sagging skin underneath the eye area. Not being a skincare guru, I had come across this information and was astonished. It turns out that there are anti aging creams that can help prevent this.

My mother happens to be a smoker as well as an aging woman (please do not tell her I told you that), and she constantly tells me how her skin lotion doesn’t seem to be up to par and wrinkles and sagging continues. I researched a little and came across this information, so I decided we should experiment with a couple of brands. Not saying any names, most didn’t work, and if they did it wouldn’t last very long – maybe two weeks until wrinkles returned.

That’s when I found the information about the two different ways in which our skin ages. From there, I picked up two different brands of anti aging cream to see if there was a startling difference between brands. One of the brands was targeted directly toward external aging, and it did a great job for my mother, being that she is a smoker and she is out in the sun a lot.

The next product she tried out did do some good things for her, but not as much as the previous cream. The product helped her out, but it wasn’t the same as the first cream, which did an amazing job.

The little experiment that we jumped into actually ended up being really successful. My mom got to figure out the root of her wrinkle issues, and not only that, she even got a result from it, which has made her happy, which, in turn, makes me happy.

Skincare for the Skateboarder

May 1, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

Skincare and moisturizers are as important as anything else in life. For instance, a good friend of mine; he’s an unprofessional yet professional skateboarder. He’ll spend all day out in the sunlight jumping off flights of stairs, grinding on sidewalks and busting up his knees and elbows when he fails to land.

He’s mentally focusing all of his thoughts and energy on doing these tricks and doesn’t really take the time to think about his own safety. Repeatedly I’ll see him after a day of skateboarding and he’ll be all beat up, never wearing pads or a helmet. Due to the fact he never uses sun block or a moisturizer on the long and hot summer days, his skin will darken from being in the sun for extensive amounts of time.

When we get together I try and ask him: “Dude, aren’t you like, in pain? Why don’t you pay for a helmet or something?” He doesn’t believe in helmets or padding though. He thinks that if he wears a helmet or padding, it will only drive him to skate harder longer and more treacherously. He obviously likes to keep things safe.

“Well, do you feel the same about your skin?” I’ll retort; “If you put on sunblock, you’ll somehow spend more hours in the sun then all day, already?” Usually he’ll stare back at me blankly, uncaring of the potential repercussions of prolonged sun exposure. So being the good friend that I am, I’ve decided to search for proper skincare products and moisturizer to help guard my friend from the sun.

He might split his face on the concrete, he might possibly break an ankle or dislocate a knee launching off a cement sidewalk but as long as I’m around, at least he won’t burn to crisp in the sun. He doesn’t see that in his line of work that skin cancer can be a typical and deadly concern. If you have a friend like mine whose brain is more in the game then on his own well-being, he could use a comrade to help him smooth out the rough edges of his life- or a girlfriend.

Skincare is as Critical as Fun

April 30, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

As I headed out to the beach today I remembered to pack myself a nice delicious lunch I brought my towel and even a little beach chair sit on. I’m a real lover of the beach and can spend many hours of the day and sometimes into the night reveling in the softness of the sand and the cool invigorating feeling of the ocean water. This day was no different except as I sat out on my chair and opened my book to read a few chapters I realized I had forgotten a very important part of my beach going experience; I didn’t bring any sunblock or moisturizers for proper skincare.

For some people adequate skincare and moisturizer might take a back seat to other things. At times this rings true for me too. I’ll remember my cold cut sandwich and favorite seat before remembering my suntan lotion but I’m trying to get better.

Skin cancer runs in my family and being a sun person, I’m definitely susceptible to causing long term damage to my skin. If I don’t take precautions now I can likely turn shrivel into a prune and never be able to enjoy the sun again. So my goal is simple; enjoy the beauty that is the beach while enjoying healthy skin care. I can certainly sit out in the sun all day reading the newspaper or even just sleeping as long as I can remember a short list of items.

First and foremost I must make sure to always bring the right skincare products and moisturizers. Secondly I need to remember is to bring a thirst quenching beverage as I can’t let the sun dehydrate me. Third, if anything, bring a tiny umbrella as a minimal deflection of the sun. Lastly, I can’t forget to bring something to read, and a pair of sunglasses.

Having fun in the sun is totally an important part of life. One could be intelligent about play time and remember to protect their skin and body from potentially developing skin cancer which might take a few extra seconds of thought. The other alternative is to be careless. Sure I could not think about it, and just enjoy my time at the beach but it would be a gamble. One day I may possibly find a pretty little dark spot on me.

Using Moisturizer Before Going to the Beach

April 27, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

Summer is coming up so it’s time to prepare yourself. Something we should all certainly keep in mind is taking care of our skin. The sun is really intense on our skin, so we need to counteract the damage that it does. Truly, I love spending most of my summer time at the beach. That means I’ll be out in the sun pretty much all day, so proper skincare is needed. There are many different things we can do to protect our skin from the harmful rays at the beach. Some of the major things are applying sunblock, applying moisturizer, applying lip balm, and wearing protective clothing.

When I’m at the beach, I am sure to make use of sun block. This might seem like an apparent thing to do, but you’d be surprised to know just how many people fail to do so. Even if you are aware that it’s something you should do, many people just don’t care. They assert, “I’ll be fine” or “I don’t burn.” But, everyone’s skin is strained by the sun’s rays, even if it doesn’t look like your skin is burnt. Sometimes, getting tan can be just as bad as being burnt.

Moisturizer is another leading element for caring for your skin. You may inquire, what does moisturizer have to do with skincare at the beach? But, you should really apply moisturizer every day, even more so before and after going to the beach. This is because the sun not merely burns your skin, but it dries your skin out a lot on top of that. Even if you think your skin is less dry these days, you should still utilize a lighter, water-based formula to your face and body. Make sure you are totally shielded with moisturizer so that long day at the beach doesn’t completely destroy your skin.

Lip balm is another noteworthy thing to use at the beach. So many people think that lip balm is just for keeping your lips silky or they will just use lip gloss. But, lips are prone to skin cancer too. Not many people are conscious of that. That being said, you should be sure to use sun-protective lip balm with an SPF of at least 15.

The final safety measure that I will talk about for protecting your skin at the beach is wearing sun-protective clothing. You don’t need to conceal head to toe. That is just impractical. But, some things to give consideration to are long-sleeved shirts, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses. Even if you don’t wear this all day, you should aim to cover up for at least part of the day so you’re not totally uncovered all day. You can even try wearing clothing that is made particularly for sun protection.

Summer is quickly approaching, so take suitable precautions to protect your skin. Use sunblock, moisturizer, lip balm, and sun-protective clothing, and you’ll be one step closer to keeping your skin safe and secure while you’re at the beach this year.

Reversing Aging with Skincare

April 23, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

You don’t know why it is but perhaps, for the worst, you feel exactly the way you look. You don’t know whether it’s because of the pressure that everyday life continues to pound away on you, the foods you might eat, or what have you but you don’t feel like you look how you should. There are skincare tips that you can learn, though, and some of them are actually quite obvious. Some of them definitely go beyond products like moisturizer and other methods can be relatively affordable.

Two relaxing vices that people take part in are drinking and smoking. These might seem like obvious factors that go into unhealthy skincare but both of these things can be eliminated so that the path to brighter skin opens up. Due to smoking, any vitamin C that the body takes in disappears before the body can make use of it and it also reduces collagen and elastin, resulting in aging skin. Drinking should also be cut down on, since it increases blood flow and thinner vessels result in blotchier skin. These tips don’t even have to incorporate pricing for moisturizer, which makes them very cost-friendly.

The right kinds of food should be eaten so that skin looks young and fruitful. Speaking of fruit, types of fruit which are high in antioxidants often result in healthier skin. The greener, the better is the best motto when it comes to vegetables to eat. The deepest greens of lettuce heads and spinach have very rich pigments and, as a result, have the strongest vitamin content. For those who enjoy salads, this step should be a snap to take.

For those who feel like a incredibly good diet simply isn’t enough to look as young as possible, there are goods out on the market that should be given far more than a passing glance. In terms of active skincare, using sunscreen is imperative, even when the sun isn’t scorching or as noticeable in the open. SPF 30 is best for everyday situations but, as with any product like shampoo or conditioner, one person’s mileage may vary. It is best to ask around before deciding on a kind of sunscreen but just know that the impact of a sunscreen is heightened when in tandem with a moisturizer.

Being able to reverse signs of aging is, no doubt, a goal of any person who’s interested in keeping their skin healthy. There are steps to take, though, and they can range from easy to complex. Keeping up a balanced, healthy diet is important and reducing some of the harmful products like alcohol or sugar can do wonders for skincare. Applying sunscreen is great for us who spend most of their time outdoors and even if the weather isn’t hot, every little bit of said sun lotion helps.

Skincare During The Months Of Summer

April 20, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

The summer is the time when your skin gets showed off the most, but it can also be the most damaging time for your skin. There’s the sun, chlorine, and humidity, all taking a toll of your skin’s health. It’s hard to believe that during a time when your skin should be shown off, there are so many concerns working against you. It’s important to be aware of all these skincare difficulties. It’s essential to use moisturizer. Stay well-informed.

The sun’s rays are super strong during the summer months so you need to safeguard your skin. Additionally, chlorine really dries out your skin from all that time in the pool. The humidity causes you to sweat and that can bother your skin. With all these problems, it’ crucial to keep in mind necessary skincare for the summer months. Follow these tips to keep your skin proper this summer. Do not forget, sunscreen and moisturizer can be your best friends!

The first thing to recall for summer is to put on tons of sunscreen. You should choose products that offer a wide mix of protection. They should really block out both UVA and UVB rays. You should apply the sunscreen munificently. For example, you should apply a hefty amount before each time that you go outside. Then you must reapply every two hours and after swimming as well. Also, even if it’s cloudy outside, you need sunscreen. So, always remember to apply your sunscreen every day.

The next thing to never forget is to apply moisturizer. Even if your skin is less dry these days, you can’t skip it. If you really feel like you don’t need it, just try switching to a lighter water-based formula for the body and face. Also, you can switch out your heavy eye cream for a lighter serum. This is all important stuff that you should be applying every day, not strictly as needed. You have to remember that you need to keep up with your skincare even when it seems like your skin is good.

Those were just a couple of secrets for keeping up with your skincare for the summer months. Sunscreen and moisturizer are two vital components of solid skincare for the summer. Some other tips for the summer are: switch to summer makeup, use lip balm, wear sun-protective clothing, use self-tanner rather than baking in the sun, and prevent rosacea. These are all noteworthy things to keep in mind, so look into some of these tips in more detail if you need more help caring for your skin today.

The Proper Skincare for People With Dry Skin

February 17, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

Dry skin can be awkward and unattractive. It often shows up as rough, red, and itchy patches in places of the body that show — arms, hands, lower legs, ankles. But it also shows up on the soles of the feet, thighs, and the abdomen. Taking initiative and using the right moisturizer and following the proper skincare routine can help if you have dry skin.

Some dry skin is often hereditary and some comes with aging, as natural skin oils diminish. Some can come along with medical issues such as asthma or thyroid disease. But daily skincare habits such as washing with harsh soaps, using sanitizing or harsh cleansing agents, and scrubbing can also lead to dry skin or make it worse.

Since most dry skin is created by external causes, it responds well to external skincare treatment. Just making some adjustments to your daily skincare routine can help. No matter what the cause, there are many things you can do to make dry skin smooth and fabulous.

Hot water diminishes oils from the skin quicker than warm water. Long showers or baths typically result in dried out skin. Try limiting yourself to a single 5- or 10-minute warm shower or bath each day. Wash with unscented, soap-free, or mild soap cleansers instead of harsh cleansers. Pat your skin with a towel after you shower or wash your face or hands, leaving it damp. Use a moisturizer within three to five minutes of washing to lock moisture in your skin. Ceramides help the skin hold water and soothe dry skin. Synthetic ceramides are able to mimic the natural substances in the outermost layer of skin that help keep moisture in.

Also, you should plug in a humidifier at home to help keep skin hydrated when indoor air is dry during winter months. Wear cotton and other natural fibers; wool, synthetics, or other fabrics can be scratchy and annoying. Drink plenty of water and eat omega-3 foods. Important fatty acids can help fortify the skin’s natural oil-retaining barriers. For itching or inflammation, use a cool compress or a hydrocortisone cream on the area for a week.

What Habits Age Your Skin: How The Right Skincare Can Help

January 19, 2012 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

Many people have a decent idea about what things they should stay away from to keep their body healthy, and their skin looking youthful. However, there might be a bunch of habits you practice frequently without a second thought that are causing you to age rapidly. From your daily skincare routine and type of moisturizer you use, to how much you drink. Fortunately, the horrible problem of premature aging is easily avoided if you know what to look out for.

Inhaling cigarette smoke either directly or indirectly can cause many health problems and age your skin. Smokers and people who hangout with smokers will slowly see the amount of wrinkles on their skin increase, and their skin will end up dry. Also, when you place a cigarette up to your mouth to inhale smoke, you are pursing your lips, and repeating this motion numerous times each day will form lines and wrinkles on your face. The smoke will also drain your Vitamin C, which is a crucial vitamin for healthy, glowing skin.

There is a reason cosmetic companies are putting SPF in almost every beauty product nowadays. And the reason is that the sun is damaging skin, and can cause wrinkles, sun spots, saggy skin, dry skin, leathery appearance and cancer. It is worth bringing up that only using moisturizer or other skincare products made with SPF isn’t protecting you completely from the sun’s harmful rays. So you should always use a sunscreen that fights against UVA and UVB rays, even on cloudy days.

When you drink alcohol, you’re causing small blood vessels in your skin to swell, which causes blood flow to move close to the skin’s surface. Too much drinking over time can hurt these blood vessels permanently, which results in patchy red skin and many times broken vessels.

There isn’t anything you can do to change mother nature, but you can be better prepared to protect your skin from damaging winds and low temperatures. In many situations, you might find that a home humidifier can assist with keeping your skin moisturized while you’re using your home’s heating system. The cold temperatures that go along with winter tend to dry up your skin, so it is very crucial that you use a moisturizer on your face and body each day to replenish the moisture in your skin.

Using Moisturizer To Keep Your Complexion: A Guide to Winter Skincare

December 12, 2011 · Posted in Health · Comment

During the cold winter months, nothing seems worse than touching your skin and feeling how dry it is. Between harsh winds, biting cold temperatures, the temptations of long hot showers, and dry heat indoors, your skin just can’t seem to get a break from October to March. However, with proper skincare and knowing how to apply moisturizer, dry skin can soon be a thing of the past. Here are some tips to help keep your skin moist this winter.

The first thing to go usually when your skin starts to dry out is your complexion. Your cheeks lose their ruddy glow and the lines become more pronounced. This is because skin cells that are dehydrated turn more slowly, which makes it easier for dull-looking dead skin to build up. While this may sound a little gross, it’s an easy skin problem to fix.

There are several ways that you can treat this. The important thing to keep in mind is that there’s more to skincare than slapping some moisturizer all over your face. Drink as much water as you can and add omega-3s to your diet. By adding fatty acids, found in salmon and walnuts, they help your skin hold onto moisture more easily. If you don’t like these types of foods, then take omega-3s supplements to assure that your skin gets all of the help it can get.

In terms of using products, you should always start with a creamy cleansing moisturizer. It contains fewer agents that can deprive your skin of moisture, and instead helps to hydrate it. After the cleanser, use a cream or a balm, rather than a lotion. Lotion just doesn’t do the trick when it comes to trapping moisture in the skin. Meanwhile, creams and balms, especially those that have antioxidants (green tea), humectants (glycerin), and emollients (nut butters), act as insulators against the dry indoor hear and cold outdoor air.

There are many other ways to use moisturizer to maintain your skin. But in terms of keeping your complexion bright, omega-3 and creams are the way to go. Be sure to research more ways that you can improve your skin regiment and take advantage of winter skincare..

Keeping Your Hair Manageable During the Winter With Proper Skincare

December 9, 2011 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

Everyone knows how difficult it is to keep your skin soft during the winter. We apply moisturizer and up our skin care regiment to combat the effects of the cold temperatures. However, we often forget to apply the same care to our hair. If you desire beautiful hair this winter, here are some tips to help you out.

It’s important to understand why your hair should be maintained when it’s cold outside. Just like our skin, hair also dries out from the drastic changes from the warm indoors to outside, and back. If special care isn’t taken, then hair can become dull in appearance. It can also become brittle from blow-drying your hair, then stepping outdoors. The change in temperature is too much, and damage will ensue in the form of split ends and weaker strands.

There are many ways to treat dry hair, but the # 1 way is conditioner, and lots of it! Look for conditioner with silicones, as they help keep in moisture by locking down the outer cuticle of hair. Also try conditioner with quaternary ammonium compounds or “quats. They leave hair soft to the touch, while eliminating the effect of static. Some quats that are useful include cetrimonium chloride and behentrimonium chloride, often found in Dove conditioners.

But don’t forget to include your scalp in your skincare! Dry hair often means a dry scalp, which leads to itching and flakes. Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner for a week. If that doesn’t help, use an intensive scalp treatment. And finally, if it’s still not healing your scalp, then you have dandruff. Switch to a dandruff-specific shampoo and speak to a dermatologist.

Moisturizer can go a long way to keeping your skin taken care of during the winter. However, your hair and scalp can easily get neglected. So add special shampoo and conditioner to your skincare regiment so you can spend your winter with beautiful hair and skin.

Skin Care During The Cold Winter Months

December 8, 2011 · Posted in Health · Comment

Winter has officially begun, and snow is around the corner! While the cold weather promises fun times, such as building snowmen, sledding down hills, and ice skating, it can also mean trouble for your skin. While using moisturizer is wonderful, it’s only a part of maintaining proper skin care. Here are some other useful tips to keep in mind to prevent damage to your skin.

While this particular suggestion seems self explanatory, wearing gloves is an under rated factor in keeping your hands moist. Moisturizer can help keep your hands from drying out, but as they have thinner skin and less oil glands on them, more needs to be done for them. By wearing gloves, you can prevent them from drying out into painfully itchy patches, or from turning into cracks. So be sure to wear gloves every time you go outdoors. And if your gloves, socks or any other article of clothing gets wet, change out of them as soon as possible. Wet clothing leads to chafing and sores, along with increasing your chances of your skin cracking or developing eczema.

But it’s not only the outdoors that can affect your skin. Space heaters and central heating systems absorb moisture out of the air, the same as cold, dry weather does. So place humidifiers in your home and office to help prevent your skin from drying out. By having several of them throughout your house or building, moisture will be evenly distributed, supporting proper skin care.

And finally, this last suggestion is actually a clearing up of an old wives’ tale. Many have heard that you should drink plenty of water in order to have nice skin. While drinking water has many health benefits, it actually does little for skin care. Water alone does not provide enough moisture for your skin, so don’t think that drinking your 8 glasses a day will cut it. Be sure to keep up with the moisturizer and your regular skin care regimen in order to really see some results.

These are just a few helpful suggestions to keeping your skin soft and moist during the winter. Don’t be afraid to do more research or talk to a specialist to find out more ways to maintain proper skin care.

They are designed to be absorbed into the top layer of skin and replace the oil or replenish the water that the skin needs. The oil to water ratio is determined by the type of skin for which the product is designed.

The amount of oil a skin care item has, the thicker it will be. Similar to a mayonnaise and an oil and vinegar salad dressing, both contain nearly the same ingredients but because the mayo has more oil it will be thicker. What makes skin care items thick, is the percentage of oil.

Dry skin doesn’t generate enough oil to to keep the skin moist. This type skin needs more oil than water, that’s why the texture of a moisturizer for dry skin is usually a thick cream and may contain as much as 50% oil. This high percentage of oil replaces what skin needs which is to transform dry skin into healthy, soft, radiant looking skin. Practically all dry skin, moisturizers are thick creams that are sold in wide mouth containers.

Combination/dry skin doesn’t need as much oil, only upwards of 25%. Their moisturizers are usually thinner but are sold in jars as well. Combination/oily, skin needs items that contain less oil and more water. They have about 10% oil and will be lighter in texture, like a lotion and usually are generally found in pump or squeeze bottles.

Typically, oily skin types believe they shouldn’t use a moisturizer. Wrong! Your facial skin produces too much oil, but routine use of the right moisturizer will help reduce the production of excess facial oil. Andi Bradshaw, the author says that very oily skin types should only use 100% oil free moisturizers, because by law an oil free product can contain as much as 2% oil. Moisturizers may also contain powders that absorb oil and give a matte or shine free finish. Oil free moisturizers have very thin, lotion or gel consistency and come in pump or squeeze type bottles.

Any skin type can be sensitive and that establishes the product texture and style of the container. The categories are: combination/ normal/sensitive, oily /sensitive, dry/sensitive, which determines the percentage of oil and the container for each moisturizer. The major difference between regular and sensitive skin moisturizers are that products for sensitive skin contain no know allergens, fragrances or coloring; that’s what makes them hypo-allergenic. All moisturizers are designed to help the skin feel soft and appear healthy and moist.

When To Apply Moisturizer

October 22, 2011 · Posted in Skin Care · Comment

Wake up. Slap on moisturizer. Go on with the day. That is the common process for many people who use moisturizers. However there are times that putting on moisturizer is a better idea than other times. It just makes sense, considering the point of moisturizer is to keep in as much moisture as possible within your pores.

After a Shower- The best time to use moisturizer is after a bath, shower, or any event that involves cleaning yourself with water. Of course, this does not mean to apply it while you’re soaking wet, as that will just wash everything away! So in order to apply moisturizer effectively, wait a few minutes for your skin to become damp, but not drowning in water. Applying moisturizer at this time will have a double effect. It will keep moisture sealed in, giving your skin a more vibrant color. It will also create a protective layer, keeping your skin in good health.

If You Have Dry Skin?- Apply it often, and regularly. If you have very dry skin there’s no reason you should not apply it every few hours. If it seems your skin is just drying up quickly, then applying it once in the day and hoping it lasts isn’t a very good plan. So every few hours, just apply it, and your skin will thank you for it!

Harsh Weather- If you ever go outside and it has been a day where there’s lots of wind, rain, or other harsher environment conditions, it’s a good idea to put on moisturizer, as it will protect your skin from environmental conditions a bit.

Of course, if you have problems with your skin, it’s always a smart idea to consult a dermatologist before using moisturizer, especially daily. It may interfere with skin problems if your skin is too oily and the such.

Face Moisturizer Need-To-Knows

October 15, 2011 · Posted in Fitness · Comment

It can be difficult trying to find a face moisturizer that will work for you and even harder to find one that is safe. Some cosmetic companies do very little testing with regard to how safe their cosmetics products are before selling them to the general public. This article gives you the info you need when you are looking for an effective facial moisturizer.

A good face moisturizer should keep your face moisturized and nourished. A facial moisturizer is intended to be the only sun protection to keep you from getting burned. A lot of moisturizers only have an SPF rating of 15 and that is really not a lot of protection. The minimum you could do with is SPF 20 to get the best sun protection. The best sunscreens will have zinc oxide, which is not used in moisturizers.

Surprisingly, many so called moisturizing products don’t even contain any moisturizing ingredients in them. Ingredients like mineral oil and other petroleum based ingredients have been used for many years but do not actually increase the moisture levels of your skin. Instead they leave your skin feeling like it has a greasy layer on it and your pores can become clogged. These ingredients can stop your skin from getting the moisture it needs but they are still suggested by some doctors.

Grape seed oil is one ingredient you should seek in a facial moisturizer; it contains antioxidants that decelerate aging and help you stay young looking. Another good ingredient is shea butter, which is very effective when used before bed. The better face moisturizer products will make your wrinkles less noticeable, recover the texture of your skin and have you looking better in a matter of weeks. The more high-priced products have better ingredients if you have the money to spend on them.

It is important to obtain a face moisturizer with no artificial preservatives or fragrances. Many natural products contain Vitamin E, which acts as a preservative and also helps protect your skin from damage by free radicals. The two problems that people have when exposed to a lot of sun is excessively dry skin and excess free radical production.
