Finding the right Oak Architrave installer

July 23, 2012 · Posted in Real Estate · Comment

You will need to find the right Oak Architrave installer after you have decided that you want to get the job done.

This finishing piece can really make a room and you want the installation done correctly the first time. There is nothing worse than paying for work only to find that it does not meet with your expectations. Hiring someone to install your finishing pieces is similar to finding a contractor for any other job. The difference is that the person you hire for this particular work will be called a finishing contractor because that is what they do.

You need to create a list of Oak Architrave installer candidates that you will ultimately choose your final installer from. You want to find someone you can trust to do a good job for you at a reasonable price. You will need to do your homework on your candidates though if you want to make sure you’re happy with the final results.

You should turn to people that you trust and ask them if they have some names of candidates you should consider. You will need to ask your friends and your peers for finishing contractor recommendations specifically. Most people are very happy to give you names of contractors or other vendors that they think you can use for whatever you have going when you make the request. It is quite possible you’ll have too many options. You can always look in the phonebook under finishing contractor though if you are not getting such a great response.

You can move to the next step in the process when you list of candidates is about three to five names long. This next step is where you create a list of questions that you will ask each of the contractors. It is very important that you create the list before you meet with the candidates. You will discover that it is much easier to compare the candidates and make a hiring decision if you ask them all the same thing.

If however you go for a cheap quality oak, be prepared to have a lot of waste because you wont be able to use it all.

MDF Skirting boards are just one use wood composite materials

July 19, 2012 · Posted in Family · Comment

People today have more options when it comes to the type of materials they use in their homes. Using alternatives to wood is becoming a much more popular trend. The reasons people seem to like the wood composite materials is because they last longer then actual wood and they don’t require the maintenance that real wood does.

Beyond installing MDF skirting boards there are plenty of other places to use wood composite materials as an alternative to real wood products. There are wood-like products that you can use outside and then are uses for inside the house as well. In both cases the primary benefit to the wood composite product is the lack of maintenance that is required to keep the product looking good.

The number one place people use the composite material is on their decks. Cedar boards is what most decks are made of. After cedar is installed then you need to let it sit a few days. Once the cedar has been allowed to breath it will be time for you to put the wood stain on it. Once your deck is installed and stained you will need to pressure wash it and restain it every other year at a minimum. If you use the wood composite material you won’t need to do this regular maintenance. You just need to pressure wash the wood composite material every once in a while.

You can use the wood composite material anywhere in your home that you might use a real wood product, so it’s not just MDF skirting boards that you can use it on. The good news though is that wood in your home doesn’t require the same maintenance as wood outside your home. So really you’re only saving time upfront on the installation of the composite material because you don’t have to stain it like you would have to stain real wood.

Fixing MDF to the wall is also much easier because it is usually straighter and has a smoother shiny surface that will take well to the adhesive. MDF will however bend very slightly but without splitting so that you can still use glue even around corners.

What to think about when choosing your skirting boards

June 29, 2012 · Posted in Family · Comment

It doesn’t seem like a complicated process when it comes to buying skirting boards. You need to think about a few different things though. The type of material to use is one thing to think about. The boards will need to be finished and you need to decide what that will be. You also need to think about whether or not you’ll install the boards or have the installation done for you.

The first thing you need to do is decide on the type of material you want to use for your skirting boards. There are many different types of material available to you. Often people go with a wood board for the bases of their walls. However, if you are buying these for an industrial type building then you will probably want to choose a material other than wood. There are also composite materials that you can choose for your boards.

Your next decision after choosing the material type is to land on a finish choice for the boards. A finish is not needed if you are using vinyl boards or boards made of a composite material because those boards already come finished. Depending on the type of wood you decide to go with, you will need to choose a finish that will work with that wood type. Some finishes come in colors, so if you want you can also decide what color is appropriate for your boards.

Your next and last decision should be whether you want to do the installation of your skirting boards yourself or if you will have someone do that for you. It probably wouldn’t be too hard to do the work yourself if you are having regular wood or composite boards installed. If you chose vinyl though, then you may want to have a professional handle the installation. This is because you have to glue vinyl in place and must be done just right if you want it to last.

Before you actually go buy your skirting board, make sure you check out the reviews to make sure people have had a good experience with the supplier.
